ABOUT

WHAT WE DO

A new cultural production lab focused on invigorating public spaces and building collective responsibility for our shared places. Its mission is to inspire tangible and personal responsibility for public spaces, culture and the environment.

We are still in inception phase and developing and testing a range prototypes. We welcome interest, conversations and partners!

CURRENT PROJECT

colour in faith

Artist: Yazmany Arboleda
Date: August, 2015 – ongoing
Timeframe: ongoing

Description:

The idea is to focus on houses of worship (e.g. churches, temples, mosques and synagogues) and colour the physical structures that hold these communities together yellow. The colour would symbolize and speak to LOVE as the most important notion in any religion. Colouring the buildings would highlight the idea that there is more that unites than divides us as a people. Painting the buildings would represent a catalytic event that expresses the progress in community unity, belief in love and an expression of inclusivity as a result of the project.

The idea is to build neighborhood solidarity and address religious-based prejudice by connecting communities of worship and inviting them to paint each other's buildings (e.g. churches, temples, mosques and synagogues) yellow. The colour would symbolize and speak to LOVE as the most important notion in any religion. Colouring the buildings would highlight the idea that there is more that unites than divides us as a people. CREATING AN ENABLING ENVIRONMENT FOR BOTH PATIENTS AND HEALTHCARE WORKERS: Obvious as it sounds, health of patients is contingent on the health of healthcare workers. Through aesthetics, we improve the quality of the workspace with particular attention to ongoing mitigation of chronic stress that is often experienced by health care workers.

inCOMMONS has negotiated its first ever partnership with Nairobi City County to build a sculptural performance space in historic Jeevanjee Garden. Nairobi has 1700 public spaces, but the ones developed can be counted on your fingers. With your help, we'd like to reinvigorate many more.
